Local Initiatives

St. Andrew’s has made a commitment to support three initiatives including Daybreak Housing and Gracefield Camp, with our prayers and financial assistance. As well, members of the congregation, including members of our Ministry of Outreach, give time and resources to many other local initiatives. Please speak with us if you could help with any of these important community partnerships.

Daybreak Housing

This local project centres on extending our partnership with Daybreak Housing, which operates five homes in Ottawa for single, low-income men and women who need help in rebuilding their lives when shattered by mental illness, substance abuse or abusive relationships. This organization, which is supported by centre town churches, currently requires both financial and hands on support.

Gracefield Camp and Conference Centre

There are many opportunities for increasing congregational support to Gracefield Presbyterian Camp, including giving needy children in our community a Christian camping experience, providing youth with a working experience during the summer, supporting regular maintenance and up-keep through a working team, sponsoring study groups and conferences and providing for financial and/or material needs.

Local missions

Through member involvement and financial giving, St. Andrew’s supports a number of other local missions such as the Ottawa Mission, Bruce House, Centre 507, the Interval House shelter, Out-of-the-Cold Centre 120, the Ottawa Centretown Laundry Co-op and other local social initiatives.

Internationally

St. Andrew’s is committed to being involved in the lives and concerns of people even outside our own country. Members are able to donate directly to the continuing work of Presbyterian World Service and Development on our weekly offering envelopes.

Amkhut, India

To extend our knowledge and experience internationally, St. Andrew’s is developing a partnership with a Christian community in Jobat, India. An exchange of faith experience and the providing of support to a community which faces many challenges, including persecution, is strengthening us in our own faith and witness.

To continue building our relationships with the people of this area in India, members of St. Andrew’s have been visiting the congregation of the First Church Amkhut, as we have welcomed visits from members of our sister church in India as well. If you’d like to be a part of one of these trips to Amkhut, speak with Aisling B.
